Day 9–Parmesan-Crusted Pork Chops
It had to happen eventually. I’m surprised I made it more than a week before it finally happened. Just so you know, I’m nothing if I’m not transparent with people and I plan on publishing both my successes and my failures. This day just so happened to be a BIG FAIL.
I think the lesson learned here is that I will need to shop for my ingredients myself from now on. I had planned on going shopping for the next few meals last night, but didn’t make it to the store (we went for a family walk last night instead). I sent Chris this morning to pick up the pork chops that I needed, and he came home with some BIG ole’ chops!
I had followed the recipe completely(except for buying the correct thickness chops), but this is how they turned out. Black, burned, and not done on the inside. What a letdown!
Yes, the above picture may look a little done, but it still looks edible, right? Wrong. Unless my goal was to give my boys food poisoning. When the recipe states to cook each side about 6 minutes a piece, I think they meant cook with a much thinner pork chop!
I did end up saving the meal. I cut the chops into strips and cooked the thinner strips until they were done. When I put them on the plate, Jacob said “I thought they were supposed to be coated in Parmesan cheese? Where is the crusting?” I looked at him in exasperated silence and he got the message!
It turns out that the only people who were subjected to this mess–I mean, meal– were me and the boys, since Todd and Emily took an impromptu trip to Pigeon Forge to see a concert. I am glad they missed it. I even forgot to add the lemon at the end. And I even cut it up and had it ready to put on the plates! Another fail.
I will cook pork chops again, but not with this recipe. I could not taste any Parmesan cheese or flavor, but it most likely is user error. For this reason, I am still giving this 3 stars, since Chris ate 3-4 pieces of the strips and said it tasted fine to him. I didn’t like them and Jacob didn’t really like it either.
Hanging my head in shame,
I found this recipe here:http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/parmesan-crusted-pork-chops-recipe.html
1/3 family members would eat this again
